Awards night at the Fair

The 2017 Montgomery County Fair officially kicks off this evening.

Fair organizer Brian Lerette said welcome events kick off at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

“We’ll present the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame winner, the Rotary Club “Service Above Self” award, the presentation of the John Hossle scholarship, and the crowning of this year’s fair queen,” said LeRette.

Queen candidates are Savanna Moffett, 16, of Stanton; Lily Jean Peterson, 17, of Elliott; Felicia Taylor, 18, of Red Oak; Jody Vanderholm, 18, of Stanton; Katie VanMeter, 17, of Red Oak; and Hannah Vial, 17, of Red Oak.

In addition, LeRette said there are headline events scheduled each evening. “We’ve got our main night events with ATV races Thursday evening, The bull ride, which is a free event for the public on Friday evening, and the demolition derby on Saturday night.”

The ATV race, the bull ride, and the demolition derby all begin at 7:30 p.m. at the grandstand arena. LeRette added that another popular event makes a return appearance this year, Thursday-Saturday: “The full carnival will also be here this year, on the midway,” said LeRette.

Wednesday:

• 4-H Dog Show at 8 a.m. in the white commercial building.

• 4-H Exhibits from noon to 9 pm.

• 4-H/FFA Poultry Show at 1 p.m. at the livestock pavilion.

Thursday:

• 4-H/FFA Rabbit Show at 8 a.m. in the livestock pavilion.

• 4-H/FFA Sheep Show at 2 pm. At the livestock pavilion.

• 4-H/FFA Horse Show at the horse show arena.

Friday:

• Swine judging at 8 a.m. at the livestock pavilion.

• 4-H/FFA Meat & Dairy Goat Show at 1 p.m. at the livestock pavilion.

• 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest at 3:30 p.m. at the livestock pavilion.

Saturday:

• 4-H/FFA Beef Show at 9 a.m. at the livestock pavilion.

• The Baby Contest, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the show to follow at 9:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds auditorium.

• The Draft Horse Farm Hitch competition at 1 p.m. at the horse show arena.

• Baked apple pie contest from 2-2:30 p.m.

• Pie and ice cream social from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds auditorium.

• Clover Kids Animal Share Show at 3 p.m. at the livestock pavilion.

• Additional events include the Meyers Petting Zoo and S & R pony rides, throughout the day Thursday-Saturday.

Sunday:

• Pancake breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds.

• Pedal pull at 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds auditorium.

• Open Class Bucket/Bottle Show at the livestock pavilion.

• Livestock auction at 4 p.m.
