Alice Smiley, 82
Alice “Mrs. Alfred” Smiley, 82, formerly of Red Oak, passed away Aug. 30, 2011, at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah.
Alice was born to Emma and Frank Longmeyer Aug. 26, 1929, in Missouri Valley. She attended school in Missouri Valley where she graduated in 1947.
Alice was united in marriage June 5, 1947, to James “Alfred” Smiley. The couple had four children, a son, Gary, and daughters, Susan, Barbara and Jody.
Through the years Alice enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding the birds, reading, going fishing and being outdoors. Alice enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and getting all the family together to celebrate birthdays and holidays.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Emma and Frank Longmeyer; brother, Frank Jr.; and sisters, Helen Knauss and Dorothy Moore.
Survivors include her brothers, Butch Longmeyer, of Missouri Valley, and Bob (Carole) Longmeyer, of Peach Tree City, Ga.; sister, Flossie (Ken) Helmick, of Omaha; son, Gary (Peg) Smiley, of Imogene; daughters, Susan Barnes, of Glenwood, Barbara Converse, of Edmond, Okla., and Jody (Mike) Stille, of Washington, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Lila White, of Papillion, Neb., and Margie Salter, of Missouri Valley; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of friends.
A memorial service took place Sept. 3, at the Strahan United Methodist Church in Strahan.
