Incidents

  • On Sept. 18, James D. Watkins, Red Oak, reported an unknown subject(s) took his bike from 2400 N. 8th St. The bike is described as a black and silver Gary Fisher mountain bike. The value is estimated at $550. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Red Oak Police Department.
  • On Sept. 18, Ingrid Perkins, Emerson, reported her son was at the YMCA and during his visit an unknown individual(s) took a black iPod with neon green colored case from the YMCA. Perkins estimated the value of the iPod was $400. This incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Red Oak Police Department.

Accidents

  • On Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m., officers were called to the alley way of E. Corning St. and N. 2nd St. for a vehicle that had struck a pole. Upon arrival, the driver of the vehicle, Kayla Cornelison, 20, Red Oak, had no apparent injuries and was out of the vehicle walking around. Cornelison stated she had gotten into a verbal argument with another person. She backed out of a driveway in the alley and sped off in rapid acceleration, going about 40 miles per hour. She looked at her cell phone to call her mother, lost control of the car and struck the pole, breaking it in two places and knocking down the electrical lines.
  • On Sept. 18 at 7:36 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office received a report of a two-vehicle, property damage accident at the intersection of 4th Ave. and High St. in Villisca involving a school bus. Upon arrival, it was determined a 2001 Honda Civic, operated by Dean Allen Smith, 16, Villisca, was stopped at the intersection waiting to turn westbound onto High St. Smith stated he could not see well due to moisture on the driver’s side window. Smith entered the intersection and collided with a 2001 International school bus owned by the Villisca Community School District and operated by Jeffrey Allen Beckett, 57, Villisca. There were two students on board at the time of the accident. Villisca Fire and Rescue was dispatched to make sure there were no injuries to all parties. Damage to the Smith vehicle is estimated at $4,000 and damage to the school bus is estimated at $1,500. Smith was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s office was assisted by Villisca Fire and Rescue.
