Incidents

  • On June 17, at 5:10 p.m., Red Oak Rescue was called to the Montgomery County jail for a possible medical emergency of an inmate. After evaluating the possible medical emergency, emergency personnel started to exit the holding area. During this time the inmate assaulted the paramedic and was taken into custody by Montgomery County deputies and Red Oak officers. The inmate is now being charged with assault on a firefighter/paramedic and being held in lieu of $1,000 cash bond in addition to the previous charges.

Accidents

  • On June 17, at 4:49 p.m., a 1998 Saturn SC2 owned by James Ahlhelm was legally parked in the Legion Park area near the Red Oak Community swimming pool. An unknown red vehicle sideswiped the Saturn owned by Ahlhelm, breaking off the right side exterior mirror. There was also a smear of red paint transfer from where the two vehicles rubbed together. Damage to the Ahlhelm vehicle is estimated at $200 damage.
  • On June 17, at 3:50 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office responded to a call of a 4-wheeler accident east of O Ave. on 240th St. The driver of the 4-wheeler, Cody Johnson, 18, Stanton, was eastbound on county gravel on 240th and locked the brakes on the 4-wheeler. The 4-wheeler veered towards the south ditch, so Johnson jumped off. Johnson injured his left leg upon landing. There was no damage to the 4-wheeler. Johnson was transported by ambulance to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Stanton and Red Oak Fire and Rescue Departments.
  • On June 23, at 10:16 a.m., a 2009 Chevy Malibu owned and operated by Diana Freshour was traveling southbound on U Ave., turning east into the parking lot at 109 N. U Ave. Freshour thought she saw an animal and swerved to avoid it. The car struck a telephone pole owned by Villisca City Municipal Power. The vehicle sustained an estimated $3,500 damage. The power pole sustained an estimated $200 damage. There were no injuries or charges.
