ACCIDENTS

• On April 21, at about 4:13 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection on Highway 34 and 8th Street. Sabrina Robb, 16, Red Oak, driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, was traveling south on 8th Street and failed to see the 1999 Ford Contour driven by Glen Meyer, 46, Red Oak, which was traveling east. Robb pulled into the intersection, and the vehicles collided. Damage to Robb’s vehicle is estimated at about $7,000, and damage to Meyer’s vehicle is estimated at about $10,000. Robb was cited for failure to obey stop/yield sign. Red Oak Police officers were assisted by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol. 
• On April 25, at about 10:22 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Oak and 1st Streets. Herbert Behrhorst, 86, Clarinda, driving a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, was driving east on Oak Street and had passed the 1st Street intersection. Jay Klyn, 45, Red Oak, driving a 2011 Ford Taurus belonging to Kathy Klyn, was stopped on 1st Street and began to make a left turn onto Oak Street. Deciding he wanted to turn onto 1st Street, Behrhorst began to back up. Klyn tried to put his vehicle into reverse to avoid Behrhorst but was unsuccessful, and Behrhorst’s vehicle struck Klyn’s. Behrhorst’s vehicle had about $150 damage, and damage to Klyn’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000. Behrhorst was cited for unsafe backing.
