Accidents

  • On April 12, at 8:48 a.m., officers of the Red Oak Police Department were called to North 2nd Street and East. Reed Street for a report of a two-vehicle accident. Upon arrival and investigation, it was found a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Paul Russell, 83, Red Oak, was traveling westbound on E. Reed Street. A 2009 Chevy Impala, driven by Patrick Hall, 23, Red Oak, was traveling northbound on N. 2nd Street. Hall failed to obey the stop sign and struck Russell. Estimated damage to Russell’s vehicle is $1,800. Estimated damage to Hall’s vehicle is $1,500. Hall was found at fault in the accident.
  •  On April 14, at 7:57 a.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle, no-injury accident at the intersection of North 8th Street and E. Oak Street. Upon arrival and investigation, it was found that a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Felisha Wingfield, 44, Red Oak, was stopped at the stop sign, facing northbound at the intersection. A 2000 Chevy S-10, driven by Christopher Allison, 18, Red Oak, was traveling northbound and attempted to stop. Due to icy road conditions, Allison failed to stop and struck Wingfield. Estimated damage to Wingfield’s vehicle is $1,600. Estimated damage to Allison’s vehicle is $300. Allison was cited for not operating his vehicle according to road conditions.
  • On April 16, at 2:30 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of North 8th Street and East Senate Avenue for a property damage accident. Once on the scene, officers were told Carol Gary, 73, Red Oak, driving a 2014 Kia Optima, had hit her head during the accident. Gary was checked by Red Oak Rescue, but refused transport at the scene. Upon investigation, officers determined a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by Delaine Lundgren, 82, was eastbound on E. Senate Avenue and had stopped at the stop sign. Gary had turned off Highway 34 onto N. 8th Street, heading northbound. As she approached the intersection of E. Senate, Lundgren pulled away from the stop sign and struck Gary in the driver’s side door. Lundgren told officers he did not see Gary. Lundgren was issued citation for failing to yield from a stop sign. Gary’s vehicle was towed from the scene by private tow.
  • On April 18, at 11:51 a.m., a 2011 Toyota Camry, driven by Denise Reed, 41, Clarinda, was eastbound on Highway 34 and had slowed to a stop behind a left-turning vehicle. A 2013 Ford Fusion, driven by Gregory Franzen, 34, Omaha, was also heading eastbound and stopped behind Reed. A 2008 Ford F550, driven by Robert Randolph, 81, Council Bluffs, was heading eastbound and did not see Franzen was stopped until he was too close. Randolph was unable to stop, striking Franzen and pushing him into Reed, causing a property-damage accident.
