Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Beef Specialist, Erika Lundy explains, “Perhaps the greatest part of beef shows is the ability for exhibitors access to actual project carcass data. This data can greatly enhance the educational component of a market beef project and hopefully guide exhibitors and families as they make future management and selection decisions. Genetics, management, nutrition, and numerous other variables affect the quality of the final poduct. The main purpose of this project is to educate Iowa’s youth and allow hands-on practice at producing high quality, profitable beef cattle.”
Montgomery County had 13 exhibitors send a total of 22 head of cattle to participate in the beef carcass contest this year. We are very proud of all the exhibitors, not just for their dedication and hard work but for the resilience they showed during these unprecedented times.
Thank you to the Mills/Montgomery County Cattlemen Association and Vincent and Becky Dolch for sponsoring the awards for our champions. Thank you to Karen and Keith Klocke for donating the EID tags that were necessary to send the cattle to the carcass contest this year. We couldn’t do what we do for the exhibitors without the support from our amazing community sponsors.
