$1.5 million science center for Iowa School for the Deaf
Iowa School for the Deaf has announced plans for a new science center to provide students with learning experiences so they will be better prepared to compete with their hearing peers in science careers.
The school, which serves school-aged students from Iowa and Nebraska, has launched a $1.5 million science center fundraising campaign.
More than $1 million is already pledged and donated to the ‘Loud and Clear’ campaign, which will provide funds for the new center.
A 6,500 sq. ft. area, will be renovated into a modern science center. ISD has already invested $300,000 into the project and hopes to have the center ready for learning in fall, 2010.
The new science center will enable ISD to provide students the knowledge and resources to compete with their hearing peers. It will also establish ISD’s science program as one of the premiere programs in the region.
Every student who attends ISD will receive the education they need to pursue prosperous careers in the sciences and positively contribute to their communities.
$256,000 is needed to fund construction and equipment expenses through donations to the ‘Loud and Clear’ campaign from private individuals and foundations.
Construction on the science lab will begin after the necessary funds are raised. For more information call Dr. Jeanne Prickett or Cynthia Angeroth at (712) 366-0571.
