Accidents

• On Sept. 26 at 4:53 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a report of a van in the ditch on C Ave. two-tenths of a mile north of 140th St. An investigation revealed the owner, Rlena Dee Crouse, 52, Red Oak, had been driving her 1998 Chevy Astro north on C Ave. just north of 140th St. A deer entered the road from the east. Crouse swerved to avoid the deer, causing the vehicle to go across the travel portion of the road to the other shoulder. The vehicle went along the shoulder and ditch for one-tenth of a mile before striking a power pole belonging to MidAmerican Energy with the front driver’s side. The pole snapped just above the ground, causing an estimated $2,500 damage. The vehicle was totaled at a value of $1,869. Crouse was wearing a seatbelt and the airbag did deploy. There were no injuries reported and no citation was issued. MidAmerican Energy and the Red Oak Fire Department also responded. The vehicle was towed by Egglestons Towing.
