1 dead, 2 hurt in crash

A Hastings woman was killed Sunday and two other people were injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 34 between Hastings and Malvern.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 80-year-old Alice Campbell died in the collision.
Patti Jipsen, 55, of Elliott, the driver of the other vehicle, was injured. She was taken by Glenwood Fire & Rescue to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Barbara Irwin, 53, of Charleston, Ill., a passenger in the vehicle driven by Jipsen, was taken to CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center by LifeNet helicopter ambulance.
The patrol’s crash report said Jipsen was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata westbound on Highway 34 in the left passing lane and Campbell was driving eastbound. Jipsen’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck Campbell’s vehicle off-centered and head-on in the eastbound lane. Jipsen’s vehicle came to rest in the right lane of Hwy 34 westbound while Campbell’s 2001 Ford Windstar entered the south ditch and rolled onto its top.
The collision resulted in traffic being backed up on the highway for some time. The Mills County Sheriff’s Department. Malvern Fire Department and Hastings Fire Department assisted. The Iowa State Patrol said an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
