ACCIDENTS
• On June 6, at 12:20 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a two-vehicle accident at 701 S. U Ave. in Villisca. David Rhamy, Villisca, driving a 1998 Chevrolet S10, was traveling north on U Avenue and pulled to the side of the road to deliver mail. Jessica Marshall, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was traveling north behind the Rhamy vehicle. According to the report, Marshall did not see the Rhamy vehicle slow down and her vehicle it in the left rear. Damage to the Rhamy vehicle was about $400, while damage to the Marshall vehicle was estimated at $1,000. No citations were issued.
• On June 7, at 7:45 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and 4th Street. Patricia Gohlinghorst, 60, Red Oak, driving a 2014 Nissan Murano, was traveling east on Highway 34 and was stopping for traffic at the intersection with 4th Street. Brandon Peterson, 17, Emerson, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Matthew Peterson, Emerson, was traveling east behind the Gohlinghorst vehicle, and according to the report was looking into the sun and had trouble seeing the brake lights. When Peterson noticed the Gohlinghorst vehicle was stopping, he swerved and tried to avoid striking it. The Peterson vehicle struck the rear of the Gohlinghorst vehicle, causing about $2,000 damage to the Gohlinghorst vehicle and $4,000 damage to the Peterson vehicle. No citations were issued.
• On June 8, at 7:55 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a two-vehicle accident at G Avenue and Highway 34. Ruth Burns, 52, Red Oak, driving a 2013 Kia Rio owned by Constance Josephson, Red Oak, was traveling west on Highway 34 and had stopped to wait for oncoming traffic before turning onto G Avenue. Dana Crouse, 40, Red Oak, driving a 2003 Mazda 6, was also traveling west. According to the report, Crouse realized too late that traffic in front of her was stopped and attempted to stop, but struck the rear of the Burns vehicle. Burns was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital because of neck pain. Her passenger, Sara Batten, was transported by private vehicle to the hospital. Damage to the Burns vehicle was estimated at $9,000, while damage to the Crouse vehicle was about $4,500.
• On June 9, at 5:24 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a one-vehicle accident in the 2300 block of 190th Street. A juvenile male, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was traveling east on 190th Street when the right rear tire blew. He lost control and entered the ditch, where the vehicle rolled over. The vehicle is considered a total loss. A juvenile female passenger was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
• On June 19, at 7:24 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a two-vehicle accident just east of M Avenue on Highway 34. Todd Drake, 44, Nodaway, driving a 2014 Chevrolet pick-up owned by New Balance Commodities, Nodaway, was traveling west on Highway 34 and pulling a 2005 Feather Lite trailer owned by Nodaway Valley Feeders, LLC, of Nodaway. The Drake vehicle slowed for the flag person at the construction zone and was struck by a 2005 Dodge Durango driven by Joshua Mohn, 39, Red Oak, who, according to the report, was unable to stop in time. Damage to the trailer and the Mohn vehicle was about $3,000 each. No citations were issued. However, Mohn was taken into custody for driving while license suspended and is held in lieu of $300 bond.
On June 11, at 8:59 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident in the 900 block of 7th Street. Shaee Shrum, 34, Red Oak, reported that his 2001 Dodge Durango, which was legally parked on 7th Street, was had its bumper torn off by a silver Kia Spectra which had been parked in front of it. Damage to the Shrum vehicle was about $500, and damage to the Kia was estimated at $2,500.
